Currency, banks, change
Currency is crown, but it is not the same as that in Sweden or Denmark.
One Norwegian krone (1Nok) worth in August 2004 near 0.11 €. 1 Euro worth 8.80 Nok.
We find coins of 1, 5, 10 and 20 and 50Nok.
Bills are distributed in 50, 100, 200 and 500Nok.
We can change money in most tourist offices, until Saturday and Sunday, but attention: commission is sometimes really higher than in banks. Preferably don’t change money in shops for tourists: charge huge commissions.
Possibility to change in post office. You have to wait, but commission is minimal. Advantage: there is a post office in every town.
Traveller’s checks: in banks, commission for traveller's checks is often a fixed price per check, but this commission can vary between banks (between 10 and 12Nok by check or about 1.50 euros). Search before. It disadvantages change of small quantities.
