Local currency is Maldivian rupee or rufiya (Mrf), divided into 100 laaris.
It is prohibited to import or export rufiya.
In the Maldives, the most valued currency is the U.S. dollar. However, the euro is accepted everywhere. In hotel-islands, we pay in dollars with card.
You used rufiya only for purchases on the authorized islands inhabited.
At the end of 2004, we’re paying 12.75 Mrf for 1US $ and 14.40 Mrf for 1 euro.
These rates fluctuate.
You’ll find banks and exchange offices at Hulhulé and Malé airports. In hotel-islands, you can change at the reception.
